Jim Ross: Experience and Publications
The Short Story
Jim Ross has more than 40 years experience in high school science education, in both private and public school systems. Jim's teaching career began in 1976, but really got underway in 1979 at Nicholson Catholic College in Belleville, Ontario. For six years he was the Coordinator of Investigative Studies at NCC, where his portfolio included science, math, history, geography, and the social sciences.
With a few fruitful excursions, Jim was in continuous service as a teacher of high school chemistry and physics until his early retirement in 2007.
From 2001-2005, Jim taught the pedagogy courses in Chemistry, Physics and Intermediate Science at the Faculty of Education at the University of Western Ontario.
Between 2012-2015, he taught physics and chemistry at Fanshawe College.
Jim has served as president of the Ontario Association of Physics Teachers, and has been an active member of the Science Teachers' Association of Ontario.
During that time, Jim has followed the "teacher - researcher" model of curriculum development. Every one of his many innovations was based upon peer-reviewed educational research journals, plus the experience of gifted science teachers and informed collaborators. These innovations have been tested on students, and constantly refined. The result is the IntuitivScience series of Work-Texts.
